Secure Credential Sharing
How to securely send credentials to a client using Bitwarden Send — an encrypted, self-destructing link built directly into Bitwarden.
Never send credentials via email or HelpScout directly
Emails and HelpScout tickets store credentials permanently. Always use Bitwarden Send so the credentials self-destruct after the client views them once.
What is Bitwarden Send?
Bitwarden Send is a built-in feature that lets you share encrypted text or files via a secure, time-limited link. The recipient does not need a Bitwarden account to view it. The link self-destructs after one view or when it expires — whichever comes first.
How to Create and Send a Bitwarden Send
Go to Bitwarden Send
Log into vault.bitwarden.com and click Send in the left menu.
Open Bitwarden SendClick "+ New" and select Text
Click the + New button (top right) → select Text as the Send type.
Fill in the Send details
Send name: Use the client name e.g. Stacks Law — WP Admin
Text to share: Enter the credentials clearly labelled:
Website: https://clientsite.com.au/wp-admin
Username: admin
Password: ExamplePassword123
Configure the security options
✅ Hide text by default — tick this so the client must click to reveal
✅ Deletion date — set to 1–2 days from now
✅ Maximum access count — set to 1 so it expires after one view
✅ Hide my email from recipients — tick this
Click Save
Bitwarden generates a secure send.bitwarden.com link. Click the Copy button to copy it.
Send the link to the client via HelpScout or email
Paste only the send.bitwarden.com link — do not include the actual credentials in the same message.
Follow up to confirm receipt
Check the client opened the link and saved the credentials. Once opened and the maximum access count is reached, the link is gone permanently.

Important — use the correct link
Bitwarden generates two different URLs. Only send the client the send.bitwarden.com link — not the vault.bitwarden.com/#/send/... URL which is your admin management link and won't work for recipients.
